Teachers who inspire: Media Ismael, MD
Assistant director for gastroenterology fellowship program aims to impact trainees

As assistant program director for the UF College of Medicine’s gastroenterology fellowship program, Media Ismael, MD, aims to make an impact on trainees.
In addition to inspiring the next generation of clinicians, she serves as an example for her colleagues in the division of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition.
“Her exceptional leadership, forward-thinking approach and dedication to advancing our fellows’ professional development have elevated both the quality and reputation of the program,” said administrative specialist Tiffany Rhoden, who has known Ismael since she was a resident.
Ismael was recently inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, which recognizes those who demonstrate compassionate care, humanistic leadership and a commitment to fostering empathy and respect in health care. She is also a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the American Society of Transplantation and the American College of Gastroenterology.
Her participation in multiple prestigious organizations further emphasizes Ismael’s dedication to continuous educations and professional growth.
“As Mark Twain said, ‘Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see,’ and I am joyful to be able to reflect on that as I guide our trainees,” Ismael said.
