Rx for career success
Alumni affairs and student affairs offices partner to help medical students unlock opportunities
To help medical students prepare for their futures, the UF College of Medicine connects physicians-in-training with graduates who can share knowledge and experiences with the next generation.
In the Office of Student Affairs, quadruple Gator and Associate Dean Shireen Madani Sims, MD ’01, is developing a revamped career advising program dedicated to helping medical students find their career path, with opportunities and resources relevant to each year of students’ medical training. In the Office of Medical Alumni Affairs, a monthly Alumni Speaker Series offers students the chance to network with graduates who provide a glimpse into different medical school and residency experiences, discuss various career paths and share advice on topics like work-life balance, budgeting and running a practice.
The Office of Medical Alumni Affairs and Office of Student Affairs also join forces for the monthly Gator Specialty Series, where UF College of Medicine graduates provide insight into their chosen specialties. Speakers stem from various clinical settings in urban and rural communities and academic medicine to give students the chance to explore real-world practices.
