Welcoming new leaders
Meet several new chairs and leaders who will guide the college forward
William O. Collins, MD, FACS, FAAP, who came to UF in 2006, was appointed chair of the department otolaryngology in February.
Mary D. Patterson, MD, MEd, associate dean of experiential learning and the Lou Oberndorf Professor of Healthcare Technology, became chair of the department of emergency medicine in March.
David C. Bloom, PhD, a longtime College of Medicine faculty member, began his new role as chair of the department of molecular genetics and microbiology in June.
Matthew S. Gentry, PhD, joined UF in August as chair of the department of biochemistry and molecular biology.
Rashmin C. Savani, MB, ChB, was welcomed to the College of Medicine in August as chair of the department of pediatrics.
Aaron Saguil, MD, MPH, FAAFP, a 1999 graduate of the UF College of Medicine, returned to his alma mater in June for his new role as chair of the department of community health and family medicine.
Eric Rosenberg, MD, MSPH, FACP, a professor in the department of medicine and the associate chief medical officer for UF Health Shands, was appointed associate dean for continuing medical education in August.
Karyn Esser, PhD, a professor in the former department of physiology and functional genomics, began her role as chair of the newly formed department of physiology and aging in November.
Maria Kelly, MD, FAAP, a 2002 graduate and professor in the department of pediatrics, was appointed assistant dean and chief medical officer of UF Health Physicians in October.
Communications corner
Cody Hawley, PhD, joined the College of Medicine in August as director of communications. Prior to this appointment, he served as director of executive communication at USF Health.
